Role Purpose
The European Field Service Engineer is responsible for the safe installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, repair and decommissioning of critical-power equipment at customer sites across Europe. The role combines independent field work with hands-on support for an expanding Netherlands workshop, helping ensure equipment is prepared, tested and ready for reliable deployment.
As a visible representative of the business, the engineer will deliver technically sound work, clear customer communication and accurate documentation while supporting continuous improvement in both field and workshop operations.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service and Project Delivery
- Install, commission, operate, maintain, fault-find, repair and decommission critical-power systems at customer sites.
- Work across equipment including diesel generators, AC/DC loadbanks, UPS systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, power distribution equipment and associated cabling.
- Complete planned servicing and respond effectively to unplanned faults, using electrical test equipment and a structured diagnostic approach.
- Support site installations, cable works, equipment integration, generator synchronisation and mains/standby or automatic changeover applications as required.
- Carry out site surveys and attend factory or site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT), identifying technical requirements and representing the company professionally with customers, suppliers and project partners.
Netherlands Workshop Support
- Inspect, test, service, repair and prepare equipment within the expanding Netherlands workshop between field assignments.
- Help improve workshop standards, equipment readiness, test processes, housekeeping and safe systems of work.
- Share technical knowledge and support the development of colleagues through practical coaching on appropriate tasks.
- Identify recurring technical issues and opportunities to improve reliability, fleet capability and service delivery.
Site Management, Safety and Communication
- Plan and manage assigned work in coordination with the Operations Manager or service coordinator, providing timely progress updates and escalating risks early.
- Act as the main technical contact on site, build constructive customer relationships and resolve issues calmly and professionally.
- Prepare and follow risk assessments, method statements and site-specific safety controls, and complete dynamic risk assessments when conditions change.
- Comply with company, customer and local health, safety and environmental requirements, and use tools, test equipment and PPE correctly.
- Complete job reports, test sheets, service records, timesheets and supporting documentation accurately and promptly.
Person Specification
Essential
- Strong electrical or electromechanical engineering background, supported by a relevant vocational, technical or apprenticeship qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
- Field-service experience in critical power, power generation, industrial electrical systems or a closely related environment.
- Demonstrable LV electrical fault-finding and diagnostic capability, with confidence using electrical test equipment and interpreting technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with generators and associated controls, loadbanks, power distribution, cabling or comparable critical-power assets.
- A safety-first approach and experience working with risk assessments, method statements and customer-site procedures.
- Able to work independently, organise a mobile workload and collaborate effectively with field, workshop and office-based colleagues.
- Professional working English and clear written reporting skills.
- Full driving licence, valid passport and ability to travel extensively across Europe, including overnight stays and flexible working where projects require it.
- Based in the Netherlands, Germany or a Nordic country, with the ability to attend the Netherlands workshop when required.
Desirable
- HV experience, HV switching exposure or an HV Authorised Person qualification (HV is advantageous but not essential).
- Experience with UPS, BESS, transformers, generator synchronisation, automatic transfer systems and building integration.
- Knowledge of generator controllers such as ComAp, Deep Sea Electronics (DSE) or DIEF, plus PLC or communications protocols such as Modbus or BACnet.
- Mechanical engine, fuel-system, major-service or overhaul experience.
- A recognised safety qualification and relevant local electrical or site-access certification.
- Dutch, German or another European language in addition to English.

Working Pattern and Package
This is a mobile, field-based role involving frequent European travel. The position will also spend time at the Netherlands workshop between projects.
