Position Summary
The company is seeking a highly skilled and mobile Field Service Engineer to be the face of the business on client sites across the UK, Ireland and Europe. This role is critical to the delivery of projects, involving the installation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of complex critical power systems. You will work independently and as part of a team to provide a first-class service, ensuring clients’ power infrastructure is reliable and effective.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service & Project Execution
- Install, commission, operate and decommission critical power equipment on client sites, including generators (diesel), battery energy storage systems (BESS), loadbanks (AC/DC, resistive/reactive), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), transformers, and power distribution systems and cabling.
- Perform planned and reactive maintenance, servicing and repairs on a wide range of critical power assets.
- Conduct advanced diagnostics and fault-finding on HV/LV systems to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Provide expert technical support and guidance to clients on site.
Site Management & Communication
- Represent the company professionally, maintaining excellent customer relationships at all times.
- Manage all on-site activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and to the required standard.
- Liaise with the Operations Manager and client site contacts to provide clear and timely job updates.
- Complete comprehensive site surveys and risk assessments prior to work commencement.
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately complete all necessary field service documentation, including job reports, test sheets and timesheets.
- Provide detailed and accurate reports on work carried out, including fault findings and resolutions.
- Ensure all paperwork is submitted promptly upon job completion.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Strictly adhere to and enforce all company and site-specific Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments and ensure all method statements are followed.
- Maintain and use all company-provided tools, test equipment and PPE correctly.
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer within critical power, power generation or a related electrical industry.
- Strong electrical / electronic engineering background with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills on complex HV/LV systems.
- Relevant HV/LV Authorised Person qualifications and experience (HV preferable but not essential).
- Hands-on experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting generators, BESS, UPS systems, transformers and power distribution.
- Competence in using advanced electrical test equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage own schedule and be flexible with working hours.
- Willing and able to travel extensively across the UK, Ireland and Europe, often at short notice and including overnight stays.
- A full, valid driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- Formal qualification in an electrical / electronic discipline (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3).
- CSCS / ECS card.
- IOSH or similar safety qualification.
- Knowledge of communications protocols (e.g. Modbus, BACnet).
- Passport with no travel restrictions.
