Job Purpose
To provide technical leadership and oversight of power plant operations and maintenance activities, ensuring equipment reliability, maximum availability, KPI achievement and compliance with contractual, safety and operational requirements while supporting continuous performance improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide technical supervision, guidance and leadership to operations and maintenance teams.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance activities.
- Supervise major overhauls, top-end overhauls, commissioning and recommissioning of CAT 3616 generator sets and associated equipment.
- Monitor plant performance and ensure achievement of contractual KPIs, including Availability, MTBF, MTTR, response time and maintenance compliance.
- Serve as the primary technical interface between the site, Caterpillar, OEMs and other stakeholders.
- Manage maintenance resources, including manpower, tools, materials and spare parts.
- Ensure effective utilisation of CMMS (Maximo) for work order management, maintenance planning, reporting and historical records.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations and HSE teams to ensure safe and efficient execution of work.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions for equipment failures.
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, OEM recommendations, company procedures and HSE standards.
- Review and monitor maintenance plans, schedules and work execution to maximise equipment reliability and availability.
- Prepare and review technical reports, maintenance records, KPI reports and performance analyses.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability, operational efficiency and maintenance effectiveness.
- Support the Project Manager in achieving project objectives and providing operational leadership when required.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Power Plant Engineering.
Required Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul of large-bore medium-speed diesel generator sets within power generation or similar industrial environments.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical supervisory or team leadership role.
- Proven experience in planning, coordinating and supervising preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance activities.
- Hands-on experience with CAT 3600 Series engines, including major overhaul activities and maintenance of CAT 3616 generator sets.
- Strong experience with Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and/or Crude Fuel Oil (CFO) fuel systems and associated fuel treatment and conditioning equipment.
- Experience in monitoring and managing maintenance and operational KPIs, including Availability, MTBF, MTTR, equipment uptime and maintenance compliance.
- Experience using CMMS applications, preferably Maximo, for work order management, maintenance planning, reporting and spare parts control.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams, contractors and technical resources in a power plant environment.
Desired Experience (Optional)
- Experience working under long-term Operation & Maintenance (O&M) contracts and performance-based service agreements.
- Experience with Medium Voltage (MV) generators / alternators, preferably ABB alternators and associated systems.
- Experience with synchronisation, load sharing and power management systems.
- Experience leading top-end overhauls, major overhauls, commissioning and recommissioning activities.
- Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implementing reliability improvement initiatives.
- Experience working directly with Caterpillar, OEMs and external service providers.
- Experience in performance guarantee monitoring and continuous improvement programmes.
- Experience in fuel treatment and conditioning systems, including fuel heating, viscosity control, filtration, centrifuge systems and fuel changeover procedures.
